I'd say most of my friends could tell you that I pretty much love Ray-Ban Wayfarers. I have the Red/Black sunnies and had a pair of Teal sunnies turned into prescription glasses.
I also love color. Color is the first thing most people notice about an item - especially a fashion item - and changing the color of any one item can dramatically change the entire feeling of the piece. Color is also my job, so, yeah.
Ben shared this video with me, and it's pretty much perfection. For starters, I totally underestimated the chameleon. And someone has a really great collection of Wayfarers. I am jealous - a pet chameleon and a great selection of sunglasses, must be a charmed life.
It also makes me totally want a pet chameleon!
How much fun would that be?
What would you bring over to try out on my pet chameleon?
What should I name it?

October 26, 2008 Needs to Hurry Up and Get Here
According to this Wikipedia article, Guitar Hero World Tour (commonly referred to as Guitar Hero IV, or Guitar Hero Trying to be Rockband) will include "One Armed Scissor" by At the Drive-In.
I almost fell out of my chair I was so excited! ATDI's Relationship of Command is one of my favorite albums evarrr.
Why why why must they torture us by making us wait until the end of October for the glory of being a living room rock star??
Check the setlist - which song are you psyched to live your fantasies through?
[GHWT release date info from IGN.]

ML Presents: DJ Shadow & Cut Chemist Present: The Hard Sell (& More Artistic Love)
This week was full of music & art & happiness.
Wednesday Ben & I went down to the 930 Club to see DJ Shadow & Cut Chemist Present: The Hard Sell. It was excellent.
The basic concept is the two master turntablists make music using exclusively first pressings of 45s, 8 turntables, a couple of mixing boards, and some effect pedals. Lots of cameras provide a live feed to the mega-screens, alternating with trippy animations. AWESOME.
It was really difficult to get pictures, but here's one of the best:

DJ Shadow on the right, Cut Chemist on the left
A short video I took - it's crappy, but came out way better than I had expected:
Saturday we went to Artscape, "America's largest free public arts festival." Except it costs $15 to park and $3 to use the ATM. But you know, it's free.
//end rant.
It's a Baltimore institution, taking place over the weekend with lots of music, art for sale, installations, etc. We saw some awesome stuff, and some mediocre stuff. and it was HOT.
We rode the ferris wheel for $1 each.

We snuck into the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, and it is gorgeous.

I met a nice guy who let me play with his hula hoop.

Sunday we went to Whartscape, Wham City's alternative version of Artscape. Basically a major hipster music festival, with lots of awesome/awful fashion and short sets.
Dan Deacon played and he was incredible as always. His shows are like the best dance party you've ever been to, where everyone loves each other. There are few people who can get an entire mosh pit to run in a circle and then switch directions with a shout, but Dan Deacon can.
Dan's in the orange.

I LOVE THIS CITY!

Happiness is a Warm Robot
I discovered this absolutely incredible video on YouTube today. If you are a fan of Wall-E, Pixar, animation, or general cuteness, you MUST watch.
Which robot is your favorite?
I'm a huge fan of M-O.
There are a ton of great Wall-E videos out there on the interwebs. Many of them consist of Wall-E meeting various household objects (hula hoop, bouncy balls, vacuum - remember this one from teh superbowl?) and all of them are priceless.
I fucking love Pixar.

Justice Does It Again
the newest video from electronic music greats Justice, for 'Stress' - from the album cross.
pretty intense. and impossible to ignore.
considering the trifecta of videos that have come from this album - the other two being D.A.N.C.E. and DVNO, Justice has definitely shown a serious talent for the medium (especially in an age when MTV, MTV2 and VH1 don't show music videos).

Chalayan + Puma = L O V E ?
I hate to be late with news, but this is really exciting.
On February 28th, "sportlifestyle" brand Puma officially announced that they are appointing Hussein Chalayan as the brand's Creative Director.
Which is fantastic, because Hussein is one of my all time favorite designers (see blogger profile). Hopefully during his tenure at Puma, he'll produce some fashionable sportswear - and hopefully, it will be a little more accessible than his eponymous collection.
Why do I love him so? In a word, innovation.
You'll know what I mean through this video of his SS07 collection (possibly NSFW, watch the entire video and you'll see why):
FUCKING AMAZING.
&& major thank you to W Magazine for letting me know.

4 Capital Letters
As of Wednesday I am officially going to the Justice show on Sunday at Sonar!
Obvi I'm superstoked.
& right now I'm even more excited because Jamie just sent me their latest video, for DVNO.
Definitely check it out...even if Justice isn't your thing, watch the video - the graphics are fantastic. Probably one of the best videos I've seen in a long time (actually, who sees videos anymore? they certainly aren't on MTV). I am loving all the imagery - but I don't want to give anything away, so you'll have to check it out.
So give it a watch and let me know you thoughts, because I'm a big fan :D

Never Gonna Say Goodbye
If I said "Never Gonna Give You Up"...would you start singing the whole song? Because I definitely did.
Apparently there is an internet prank going around, called being "Rick Rolled"... and it's actually kind of hilarious:
"...in a rickroll a poster provides a link they claim is relevant to the topic at hand which actually takes any one [sic] who clicks it to the Rick Astley video...In connection with the online meme, "Never Gonna Give You Up" was played and performed at some of the February 2008 protests against the Church of Scientology." - wikipedia
(I think the very last part of that is actually the most hilarious)
Ben mentioned this song/meme to me tonight, so I did a little YouTube-ing. And found the VH1 PopUp video for the song. POP UP VIDEO! I LOVE THAT SHOW!
So I just had to share the glory of a Rick Astley Pop Up video.
You can thank me later.

I Got My Name From Rock and Roll.
On Wednesday, Ben & I went down to the 930 Club in DC to see Wilco.
I had bought the tickets ages ago and it was finally here. On top of that, I had been waiting about 2 years to see Wilco, after I was unable to join Ben for their show at Penn's Landing (because of my stupid retail job). So needless to say, I was pretty stoked.
& they did not disappoint.
Unlike a lot of other acts, they sounded just as good (if not better) live as they do on their albums. Nels, the guitarist, was phenomenal and of course Jeff Tweedy was fantastic. His voice is haunting... and he even warmed to the crowd for some witty banter. But not too much witty banter, which I appreciated, because I usually find such patter contrived and frankly, stupid. But Jeff Tweedy is way too cool to be contrived.
&& the best part? They played for TWO AND HALF HOURS.
FUCKING AWESOME. And they played a really good 2.5 hour set, mixing new tracks from Sky Blue Sky with older songs. All really great songs (not that there are any bad Wilco songs). And two encores. Overall it was just AMAZING.

I wasn't sure if this video would just come out as a garbled mess, but it's pretty decent quality for a point-and-shoot digital camera...and you can get a feel for how great the show was:
"Jesus, etc." from Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (which also happens to be one of my favorite songs)
Set list:
"Sunken Treasure"
"Mountain Bed"
"Company in My Back"
"You Are My Face"
"Side with the Seeds"
"She's a Jar"
"Shot in the Arm"
"Nothing'severgonnastandinmyway(again)"
"Handshake Drugs"
"Pot Kettle Black"
"Roses Bloom"
"Impossible Germany"
"Simple"
"Someday Soon"
"Box Full of Letters"
"Always in Love"
"Pieholden Suite"
"Jesus Etc."
"Hate It Here"
"Walken"
"I'm the Man"
"Humming Bird"
"On and On and On"
"Via Chicago"
"California Stars"
"Casino Queen"
"I'm a Wheel"
"Monday"
I really, really, really want to see them again.

Everyone Loves Superbowl Commericals
My two favorite commercials from last night's snooze-fest-until-the-last-5-minutes Superbowl:
Of course, Under Armour's The New Prototype
T H E
F U T U R E
I S
O U R S !
and what is probably the funniest commercial I have seen in a long, long time:
E-trade's banking baby
"you know, me and the boys were talking about what to do with all this extra coin, and i was like 'I'm renting a clown.' . . . and I did, Bobo here . . . and uh, i really underestimated the creepiness."
fucking hilarious.

You Didn't See the Memo?
I was poking around Joystiq this morning (I love lazy Saturday mornings), and they recently featured this video, about a work day in the life of Turret from the game Portal.
It's hilarious, kind of like Office Space in the Aperture Science Laboratories.
Warning: this is seriously, seriously dorky & NSFW (language) ... & hilarious.
(from here)
My favorite part:
Turret 1: You know who I ran into last week?
Turret 2: Who?
T1: The Companion Cube
T2: OMG I hate that guy. What a douche.

Please Meet My Friend(s): LL Cool J, DMX, Snoop Dogg & Jay Z
Towards the very end of the work day today, Craig shared with me this sweeeeeeet YouTube video:
It's Aires Spears (from MADtv) doing a rap in the voices of LL Cool J, DMX, Snoop Dogg & Jay Z... and it's seriously spot-on.
When I first saw this, my jaw dropped. I was absolutely positive it was dubbed.
But apparently it's legit.
Dude's got skills.

WANT
If I'm home on a weeknight, I always make a point of watching Attack of the Show (<3) on G4 (<3).
This week they have been covering CES2008.
...That would be the Consumer Electronics Show...n00b.
The vast majority of the AOTS coverage has been to show off very drool-worthy electronics. I want it all.
Especially this:

The Asus Eee PC.
warning: above link is esentially a useless website, and it even looks like one of those fake webportals that sometimes come up when you type a domain incorrectly, you know?
It's amazing.
The video that convinced me of that fact:
(from here)
It's a tiny little Linux laptop (XP compatible, if you really want to ruin it)with a solid-state (read: flash memory) HD, so no moving parts to break.
It's got a 7" display and weighs less than 1KG, so it's totally portable.
Granted the hard drive options are 2G, 4G or 8G (about the size of an iPod Nano) but it's not for regular home computing or gaming. It's for portability and web browsing (the interwebs).
The 4G & 8G models come with built in cameras too!
I use mostly web 2.0 programs anyways...
I justify the desire/need for this a few ways:
-- The 8G model is only $500 (CHEAP)
-- I already have a regular (HDD) laptop (even if it is busted)
-- I have a large-capacity external harddrive
-- No need to buy software. I can download OpenOffice if I realllly need it
-- It doesn't use Windows, so no stupid problems!
I WANT IT!

Urban SurvivorWoman
I've been meaning to blog - no, I haven't given up on it yet - but was having some serious blogger's block.
And then I remembered this fantastic video I've been meaning to share:
"How to Charge an iPod Using Electrolytes and an Onion"
Ok, so maybe it's really nerdy, and really kind of lame (blame the blogger's block again), but it WORKS! amazing.
I can't imagine that the USB cord survives after this little experiment, but I'm not about to sacrifice mine to try the experiment for myself (stupid expensive Apple proprietary devices).
And I have to give serious props to the site responsible for this video, Household Hacker. Definitely way too many ways to hurt yourself/burn down the house/get arrested, but fantastically entertaining.
This puts me in the mood for some kitchen science.
Any takers?
I promise I'll break out my safety goggles from undergrad research...

Stephen Kellogg Must Be Really Good at Guitar Hero
Wow.
Last night was so.much.fun.
I've been looking forward to the Stephen Kellogg & the 6ers show at 8x10 since I first saw it on the band website, and was even prepared to go by myself. So I was pumped when Sarah wanted to come with.
But it only got better when we realized it was also Maggie's birthday! Sarah & I took her out to dinner at Blue Agave for fancy Mexican food and amazing margaritas (nom nom nom).
The show was fantastic. Stephen & the boys played great and kept the energy up. It wasnt too crowded and I was literally front row right in front of Stephen.
anddddd, it was his birthday too.
The most disappointing part of the night was when the rest of the crowd didn't join into the "Happy Birthday" that Sarah, Maggie & I tried to get started...

After the show we talked to the guys from the Alternate Routes (who opened)...
I mentioned having seen them open for Howie Day at Fairfield U in '03, and I think they were seriously impressed with the obscurity. Plus, they gave us 2 free CDs! wooo
I also scored a setlist off the drum kit (I always ask the roadie first... and he thanked me for asking)and all the guys signed it :D

On the bottom of the set list is a tiny list of songs for the 2nd encore, which I guess they decide in the moment. I asked Stephen why I've never seen them play "Pedal Steel," one of my favorite songs of theirs. He explained that he only plays it at shows where people aren't really talking or milling about, which I understand...its definitely a pretty intense and emotional song.

Me with the birthday kids
So I got to bed at 12:30 last night and woke up for work at 6:15 feeling quite dehydrated from all the booze...but it was completely worth it. Maggie said it was one of her best birthdays ever & it was definitely one of the most fun nights I've had since moving down here ^_^
&& in case you really wanted, here's a video I took with my Elph of my absolute favorite SK6ers song, "My Sweet Charade"...

Crayola Monologues
This website is something I found a while back while researching ideas for color names at work*
It's called the Crayola Monologues, and the video is a whimsical take on the metaphor of race through crayon colors.
& you can learn some Crayola history too.
I found it sweetly thought-provoking. It certainly takes on a very weighty issue, especially in the US, but does so in a gentle and not at all uncomfortable manner.
Check it out & let me know what you think.
[I just discovered that GoogleVideo provides the embed codes for its videos...loves it]
*for those of you who don't know much about me, I'm a colorist at a very very cool apparel brand. & one of the best parts of my job is naming colors for the new season. Spring 2009 is going to feature some of the best color names the brand has seen yet ;)
