One More Post Before Bed [Lucky Magazine Cover, January 2008]

I love being on vacation, because I can stay up all night blogging & listening to leaked Heidi Montag tracks ... i mean, obscure Misfits recordings of live shows. YeahDefinitely.

Anyway, the point of this post is:
look who's on the cover of the January 2008 issue of Lucky Magazine!

Our good friend Serena van der Woodsen.

She's so pretty, I almost want to kill myself. I said almost!

Lauren Will Always Be Known as the Girl Who Didn't Go to Paris [The Hills Season 3 Bonus Preview]

So, I finally got around to* watching the sneak preview for the bonus episodes of The Hills - season 3 - which viewers were told had ended a few weeks ago (see earlier post about After Show).

I can't fucking wait! These episodes are all about Lauren & Whitney's adventures in Paris (on assignment for Teen Vogue) & from what I can see in the video, it should be all glamour and drama, just the way I like it. And with the added effect of having it all take place in the most dramatic and glamorous city in the world.

Plus, from what I can see on this video, the dresses will not disappoint.
Not sure how I feel about L.C.'s very seriously red lipstick yet.

Video included below for those who missed it:

* slash/ MTV put off posting this for wayyyyy to long...are you listening, Viacom??

I Know This is Way Past the Fact [Project Runway Season 1]

This post will be very outdated, but it needs to happen.

I was watching Project Runway today, and Bravo was re-running the Postal Uniform Challenge (Season 1 Episode 8).

And it reminded me just how much I fucking hate Wendy Pepper.

I mean look at this bitch:

Wendy Pepper B&W

Wendy Scary Makeup

& she's just really annoying.

Look what she wore in the finale episode, where the final 3 designers show their collections at NY Fashion week:

Wendy Pepper Last Finale

She deserved to loose just off of this!

Although on a sidenote, Chloe won in Season 2 and she wore what looks like a GAP outfit at Bryant Park:

Chloe at Finale

What kills me though, is this:

Project Runway Wendy Pepper Tshirt

On the Project Runway website, they have each designer create a t-shirt design which is then sold through the website as a way for the production company to rip off fans.

Her t-shirt is a picture of herself. And the text ("longshot") is even referring to herself.

Wendy Pepper, go kill yourself. Kthanks.

The Best Gift I've Gotten Yet This Year....

Around December-time, gifts from our vendors start rolling into the office. Especially in my department, which is fabulous. We get lots (lots) of gift baskets, which will surely be my waistline's demise.

Recently we received two humongous bouquets ... think of the biggest bouquet you've ever seen, and times that by 10. Actually, put it to the power of 10. Yeah. That big.

They were beautiful! One in all red, with roses and Gerbera daisies, even silk Cardinals (the bird, not the religious figureheads) and a birdhouse. The other was white, with roses, lilies, and other pretty things.

As much as everyone loved them, I was shocked when my co-workers were asking "where is our other gift from [this vendor]?"

Apparently in past years, their gift has been donating to a charity in your name.

And today we got an email with a link to this website:

APS Giving Back
(you need to check this out)

APG Giving Back Website
so pretty :)

They upped the ante on this one, seriously. Everyone was given a budget (mine was $150) and we could stroll around the virtual town to choose our charity. We could even split up our budget between various charities and post messages.

I gave $100 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, in honor of my mother's best friend, a breast cancer surviver and tri-athlete (very cool woman).

I sent the other $50 to Ronald McDonald House Charities, in honor of the children, families and administrators at the Wilmington House -- who touched my lives in a very special way last spring semester during my Honors Project.

Needless to say, this totally made my work day. <3

The Hills: Season 3 Finale

I am not-so-secretly obsessed with the MTV show The Hills. As trashy as it is, I tune in every week (& watch every rerun, no matter how many times I've seen it) && I discuss Lauren, Heidi & Whitney as if I actually knew these people. I also own Seasons 1 & 2 on DVD, and plan to buy 3 as soon as it's available. Yes.

One of the things that I enjoy about The Hills, outside of the general drama, are the outfits. Especially now that Lauren & Audrina live together, and their styles are so different it's almost like they are assigned different archetypes and dressed by professionals.

Now that you mention it...

Anyway, I just wanted to point out a few things from the red carpet at the Finale Show.
(Just to give you a heads up, I hate the aftershows about as much as I love the actual show, and really didn't pay attention to anything but the dresses)

Lauren:

I. Love. This. Dress.
Maybe not as much as the one Serena wore in the Gossip Girl episode that I previously drooled over, but it is gorgeous nonetheless. Love the draping & especially how the drape makes is kind of like a bubble mini dress only it doesn't look like something off the clearance rack at Forever 21. I would definitely buy this in a heartbeat.

Whitney & Audrina:

Wanted to give these ladies a quick shoutout for their respectable efforts. Although I am not really in love with either of these looks, they're certainly cute! Whitney's a little too lady-buggish for me, and I feel like I've seen Audrina's dress before (any suggestions as to where?) But they both still look h0t.

Heidi:

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Granted, I hate Heidi, just as all good Hills fans are supposed to. I am starting to feel bad for her as she comes to realize just how few people actually care about her, including her so-called "boyfriend/fiance." But not bad enough not to rip on this getup.

Newsflash Ms. Montag: WE ALREADY KNOW YOU GOT A BOOB JOB! It's like this is the first time she's going out in public post-op & wants everyone to start whispering "are they bigger today???"

Of course, she and her "manager/fiance/ex fiance" are always looking for attention, so maybe she thought that the new twins could get her some?

Next time, maybe she'll put two arrows on her skirt, each pointing to a nipple.
(when this shows up on the red carpet, you'll know where the idea came from)

Time To Get Geeky

I read Wired almost everyday. I love the magazine, and should really invest in a subscription... but anyway, some of the stuff on the site is fantastically dorky && I love it. And I feel the need to share.

This is particularly timely.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

&& amazing.

This is not just fantastic Christmas decorations, but TESLA COIL decorations.

Tesla coil? It's basically a transformer. That the dude built in his backyard. S!ck.

I can only wish to be so crafty.

Urban SurvivorWoman

I've been meaning to blog - no, I haven't given up on it yet - but was having some serious blogger's block.

And then I remembered this fantastic video I've been meaning to share:

"How to Charge an iPod Using Electrolytes and an Onion"

Ok, so maybe it's really nerdy, and really kind of lame (blame the blogger's block again), but it WORKS! amazing.

I can't imagine that the USB cord survives after this little experiment, but I'm not about to sacrifice mine to try the experiment for myself (stupid expensive Apple proprietary devices).

And I have to give serious props to the site responsible for this video, Household Hacker. Definitely way too many ways to hurt yourself/burn down the house/get arrested, but fantastically entertaining.

This puts me in the mood for some kitchen science.

Any takers?
I promise I'll break out my safety goggles from undergrad research...

Even If It IS an Elanor Waldorf Original... [Gossip Girl Season 1 Episode 10]

That does not excuse the ridiculously oversize bow on your cotillion dress, B.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I mean, look at the thing. I can hardly rationalize this dress. I know the whole show is exaggerated (thats what makes it so great) and that the dress was custom-made for Blair by her high-fashion-designer mother, Elanor, and even that on the CW official Gossip Girl website, B's style is defined as so: "She loves diamonds, pearls, headbands and bows."

Thank you CW, for stating the very, very obvious.

AND, there is a video on the site in which the show's costume crew explain the outfits... I fear that they have no sense of proportion.
But I digress.

The bow looks like its about to eat your face.

Despite this bow-tastrophe, there is one thing that proves some competence in the GG costume department.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

oh.my.fuckinggd.

You know how in movies when during a wedding the door is first opened to reveal the bride and the groom has to catch his breath?

I think the moment I saw this dress, I was that groom.

It's perfect! The color is fabulous, the fit immaculate, and the details are just phenomenal. Check out those pickups into semi-rosettes and the minitrain!

But overall, the best part of the dress might be it's irony:

Check out that bow.

In your face, B.

Stephen Kellogg Must Be Really Good at Guitar Hero

Wow.

Last night was so.much.fun.

I've been looking forward to the Stephen Kellogg & the 6ers show at 8x10 since I first saw it on the band website, and was even prepared to go by myself. So I was pumped when Sarah wanted to come with.

But it only got better when we realized it was also Maggie's birthday! Sarah & I took her out to dinner at Blue Agave for fancy Mexican food and amazing margaritas (nom nom nom).

The show was fantastic. Stephen & the boys played great and kept the energy up. It wasnt too crowded and I was literally front row right in front of Stephen.
anddddd, it was his birthday too.

The most disappointing part of the night was when the rest of the crowd didn't join into the "Happy Birthday" that Sarah, Maggie & I tried to get started...

This Is How Close I Was

After the show we talked to the guys from the Alternate Routes (who opened)...
I mentioned having seen them open for Howie Day at Fairfield U in '03, and I think they were seriously impressed with the obscurity. Plus, they gave us 2 free CDs! wooo

I also scored a setlist off the drum kit (I always ask the roadie first... and he thanked me for asking)and all the guys signed it :D

SK6ers 8x10 Setlist

On the bottom of the set list is a tiny list of songs for the 2nd encore, which I guess they decide in the moment. I asked Stephen why I've never seen them play "Pedal Steel," one of my favorite songs of theirs. He explained that he only plays it at shows where people aren't really talking or milling about, which I understand...its definitely a pretty intense and emotional song.

Me with the birthday kids

So I got to bed at 12:30 last night and woke up for work at 6:15 feeling quite dehydrated from all the booze...but it was completely worth it. Maggie said it was one of her best birthdays ever & it was definitely one of the most fun nights I've had since moving down here ^_^

&& in case you really wanted, here's a video I took with my Elph of my absolute favorite SK6ers song, "My Sweet Charade"...

Shock & Awe

So my Eagles didn't do as badly as everyone had assumed they would...

Considering that the Eagles were 5w-5l & the Patriots were 10w-0l at the start of Sunday Night Football, it was kind of expected that there would be a Pats blowout.

But the Philly birds gave them a fair run for their money! If there is such a thing as a "good" loss, this would qualify. So I'm about as happy as I could be without a win :D

Final score: Philly 28, New England 31

I'm also really, really proud of AJ Feeley.

AJ Feeley 11-25-07 vs NE
[picture from ESPN.com/AP Photos]

More details here.

Even better,

Delaware beat Delaware State in their first-ever meeting & the first playoff game of the season for the Blue Hens.

Next up, University of Northern Iowa (&& would you believe I actually know someone who went there?)

Shoe Twins

I frequent NotCouture, which I highly recommend (it's also in the linklist to your right).

NotCouture recently featured these shoes, the Maude High Wedge from Rachel Comey at Gargyle, & they caught my eye the other day, even though I think they're kind of ugly:

Maude High Wedge

I realized later it's because they look just like these, the Jessica Simpson Cam:

Jessica Simpson Cam

which I bought last xmas at Lord & Taylor.

I feel so trendy!

Thoughts?? I know they are kind of ridiculous with the platform, but I swear they look amazing.

.........

Also, the Eagles play the Patriots tonight at Gillette Stadium.
My birds are in serious trouble.

Crayola Monologues

This website is something I found a while back while researching ideas for color names at work*

It's called the Crayola Monologues, and the video is a whimsical take on the metaphor of race through crayon colors.

& you can learn some Crayola history too.

I found it sweetly thought-provoking. It certainly takes on a very weighty issue, especially in the US, but does so in a gentle and not at all uncomfortable manner.

Check it out & let me know what you think.

[I just discovered that GoogleVideo provides the embed codes for its videos...loves it]

*for those of you who don't know much about me, I'm a colorist at a very very cool apparel brand. & one of the best parts of my job is naming colors for the new season. Spring 2009 is going to feature some of the best color names the brand has seen yet ;)

Project Runway: Season 4, Episodes 1 & 2

I've been meaning to post about the PR season 4 premiere for a while, but I kept putting it off. Oops.

Anyway, I won't bore you with a rundown of my feels on every designer, but just the designs that really stood out to me.

Episode 401: Sew Us What You Got

Since the commercials for this season started popping up to tease me, I've been intrigued by Christian. Maybe it's the hair, or the fact that he is totally obnoxious and has an annoying voice.

Either way, I think I fell in love with him upon reading his online bio: He went to Baltimore School for The Arts and his favorite designers are Alexander McQueen & Vivienne Westwood.

And then in the first challenge - to create something that embodies their POV as a designer (could this have been easier?!) - he produces this ensemble <3:

Project Runway Episode 401 Christian

Um, hello. You're probably gay, but marry me anyway? kthanks.

Although the colors are a little subdued for my hi-viz taste, I think we might be a match made in heaven.

The worst part is, he lost to this shit by Rami:

Project Runway Episode 401 Rami

It looks like a sorority's girls toga.

One saving grace of this look: Michael Kors's use of "MOB: Mother of the Bride" to describe the completely unnecessary and pedestrian rosette.

& I plan to add that phrase to my own fashion lexicon.

Episode 402: Money Changes Everything

omfgzzzzz SJP!

I loved, loved, loved the winning look by Victorya & Kevin:

Project Runway Episode 402 Victorya & Kevin

Def something I would love to wear. I adore the bow, the draping & the little plaid vest (very multi-function for sure). I do love dresses in general, so I suppose I'm a bit bias.

I also liked the 2nd place look, although I'm not huge on capes. But a seriously nice - not to mention surprisingly impressive - effort by Elisa & Sweet P. The spit marking by Elisa was hilarious too... might I suggest using Scotch tape? That was my way of marking fabric back when I'd sew on my parents dining room table.

Project Runway Episode 402 Elisa & Sweet P

But the worst part of this episode, by far, was the ridiculous jacket put out by my boy Christian and his partner Carmen. The turtleneck dress and belt were nothing special and/or terrible, but the jacket was a little too Michael Jackson circa "Bad" for me...and especially for Bitten.

Project Runway Episode 402 Christian & Carmen

Get your act together, boy.

A Fair Warning

Before I really get into this blog, just a little more about what it's going to be...

I'm new at this.

Sometimes I have a lot to say, sometimes I have nothing to say. So don't be surprised if I update constantly...or fall of the face of the internet for a while.

I like really garish colors & unconventional fashion. I hope you are shocked.

I have very varied interests - and my posts with reflect that randomnesses.

I'm a little anxious about how this will all turn out...

_______

In other news, Ben & I celebrated our 3 year anniversary in Annapolis this weekend

We visited the US Naval Academy

& I found this really inspiring;

in both message and design.
Old, old, handsewed flags have a significance about them that i can't really explain tangibly
